
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Afridi, visited the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) as the chief guest of the induction ceremony for Batch 35, Class of 2029. During his visit, he formally inaugurated newly constructed faculty apartments and announced 20 new scholarships for students belonging to tribal districts.
The ceremony was attended by Engr. Salim Saifullah Khan, President SOPREST and President of the GIKI Board of Governors; Mr. Shakil Durrani, Executive Director SOPREST; members of the GIKI Board; Prof. Dr. Fazal A. Khalid, Rector GIK Institute; Pro-Rectors, faculty, and students.
Addressing the audience, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring that no child in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa abandons education due to financial constraints. “Whenever students need support, the provincial government will stand by them,” he stated. He encouraged students to bring forward innovative ideas, assuring full backing for initiatives that strengthen education and research.
Mr. Afridi welcomed students from other provinces, urging them to consider GIK Institute their home, and praised the institution as a model of national unity. He expressed delight at learning that over 500 female students are currently enrolled in engineering programs, calling it a proud achievement for the province and the country. “GIK graduates are making Pakistan proud globally,” he added.
